Green plaque to mark Barwell meteorite unveiled

Barwell Parish Council are delighted to announce that the green plaque marking the surprise arrival of a large meteorite in Barwell on Christmas Eve in 1965 has been unveiled. The plaque sited at the junction of Chapel Street and Dawson's Lane - close to the site of the meteorite fall, has been set into an 8 ton granite boulder kindly donated from Midland Aggregates in Ellistown.

National Space Centre curator Dan Kendall with the largest known chunk of the Barwell meteorite which fell to earth on Christmas Eve 1965 which is now owned by London's Natural History Museum.
